If you're a DJ you probably do not want to spend a lot of money on recording equipment, but you do want the facility to be able to record you're latest mix.
In this new part of my web page I will tell you the basic pieces of equipment you will require, assuming all you have is a simple scratch mixer, a set of decks of CD mixers, and a good amp.
Firstly you will need to look on the patch panel of you mixer (the bit with lots of plugs on). When you look here you need to determine whether or not you have a record level output. Without this you cannot begin to think about recording as the line and monitor level output is no use. If you have this output you are fine, if not you need to invest in a new mixer. Big Bucks, I know !!! I would advise a Gemini or Roland mixer for scratch mixing, but if you do not want to spend a lot of money a mixer made by SoundLab would do.
Ok, you've now got the record level output. Now the first thing you will need to get you self is tape deck. I would advise to invest in a good, solid expensive model made by Denon or Teac. Of course, this is only if you want you recording set up to last you a long time and you want top notch recording quality.
On the rear panel of your tape deck there will be a line in connection and a line out connection. The line in connects to the record level output on you mixer, and the line out connects to a free channel input on you mixer. The line out is used in play back, and the line in is used for recording.
Basically you can record now, but if you wait for me to release the rest of this page you will find ways to improve the recording quality and top recording tips. Till then don't scratch too much vinyl !!!!!!!!!!!!
